Customer Snapshot: Success Strategy

Maximizing the Opportunities to Expand

This market is highly competitive and Swisscom is facing pricing challenges with the emergence of cable providers with greater bandwidth and fiber optic service offered by electricity companies. In addition, new market players are increasingly offering services independent of the networks.

To remain competitive, Swisscom has adopted a three pillar business strategy:

Expanding the market position in its core business in Switzerland

Developing business in Switzerland and areas related to the core business

Developing business outside of Switzerland, or outside of the core business related areas

The Challenge

Keeping Up in the App World

Swisscom wanted to complement its core business with new, value-adding services, so they launched an initiative to help its enterprise customers utilize mobile technology to access business processes anytime, anywhere. To deliver on that promise, Swisscom was looking for a technology to speed up development of business apps for multiple devices and operating systems—thus simplifying implementation and cutting costs for its customers.

Both the telecom business and the IT business are merging together in a lot stronger way going forward. I believe that the mobility and the cloud capabilities are actually accelerating that combination.

Enter SAP

Introducing Managed Mobility Services

Having worked with SAP technology for many years, Swisscom knew that SAP has a deep understanding of the telecommunications industry. Intrigued by SAP´s long-term strategy and expertise in the mobile field, the company made a decision to leverage the SAP Mobile Platform and SAP Afaria to develop Managed Mobility services for its system integration business.

The SAP ERP application is a powerful backend system and SAP has come up with a terrific platform to facilitate the process of going mobile across an enterprise. We are very excited to work with a company like SAP.

Enter SAP: The SAP Experience

Innovation and Integration

The SAP Mobile Platform became Swisscom’s mobile enterprise application platform, helping to deliver new mobile applications on any device, even integrating with existing backend systems. Security of information is guaranteed with SAP Afaria, which will also be used to automatically provision applications to mobile devices.

Better Business

Providing Infrastructure at a Fraction of the Cost

Swisscom now has the power through these new mobile capabilities to help its customer’s transition from a traditional run business to a mobile business. A central mobile enterprise application platform gives the company the flexibility to react to and to satisfy any customer requirement for mobile business applications. Customers will benefit from lower TCO and risk by leveraging Swisscom’s existing infrastructure and expertise.
