Functional Capabilities

SAP Event Management provides out-of-the-box support for the following processes:

Procurement Scenario
The procurement process in SAP Event Management covers events from purchase order creation to goods receipt. KPIs are provided on the supplier cycle time, changes to the purchase order, and the percentage of specific attributes. Role-based access for suppliers and buyers is available –
and the process can be combined with the transportation scenario to also cover shipment-related events.

Outbound / Inbound Delivery Scenario
This scenario provides full visibility into outbound and inbound delivery processing. It covers events from warehouse activities to the point-of-delivery at the customer site – and supports role-based access for sales executives and warehouse managers. You also have the option of using SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure to post packing and loading events.

Transportation Scenario
The transportation process concentrates on international inbound and outbound shipments. It covers international sea shipments (including customs and road transportation), and handles complex networks using transportation chains.

Production Malfunction Scenario
This process covers events from the release of the manufacturing order to the related goods receipt. It notifies the planner in the event of a machine breakdown, and provides KPIs on the manufacturing orders affected by the breakdown. Role-based access for production planners and
supervisors is available.

Technical Capabilities

  • Familiar ABAP-Type Application
    SAP EM 9.2 is based on SAP NetWeaver 7.4, an ABAP-type application most IT professionals are already familiar with – reducing the need for training.
  • Unique Data Model
    SAP EM has a unique segment-based data model that reduces table size and complexity, enabling quicker system responses and easier data management.
  • Support for Multiple Devices
    SAP Fiori applications support the viewing of event content on multiple devices.
  • Mapping Integration
    SAP Visual Business is used to display SAP EM data on geographical maps – and provides  interactive map functions such as transportation planning. SAP Event Management can be deployed with different SAP applications:

  • SAP Supply Chain Management (SAP SCM):
    This variant is appropriate when enhanced planning functionality from SAP APO or other SCM capabilities are required.
  • SAP NetWeaver:
    Deploy if you expect a very high data volume and a standalone system is justified.
  • SAP ERP, SAP Supplier Network Collaboration, SAP Transportation Management, SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure:
    Combine SAP EM with one or more of these applications if no significant data volume is expected, making a standalone system unnecessary. Profit from a lean approach, which has fewer dependencies on other release cycles and a lower TCO.
  • SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure:
    Use when setting up an SAP object event repository, where SAP Event Management is the core component.
