Customer Snapshot: Success Strategy

Rapid Response to Changing Markets

Usha is committed to pursuing excellence in all spheres of their business, and they continue to build trust in their brand by focusing on customer satisfaction.

But just as India’s demand for consumer products has grown, so too has the complexity of running a business that spans a nation of more than 1.25 billion people. Usha stays ahead of the competition by responding rapidly to changing market demands.

The Challenge

Finding Patterns in Details

With their large and diverse operations, Usha has access to a lot of business data. But to take full advantage of this resource they needed a high-performance business analytics environment.

They also wanted to gain greater visibility across the countrywide enterprise so they could optimize operations in key business areas like sales, supply chain, and procurement.

Enter SAP

Two Approaches

First, Usha knew they wanted faster performance from their SAP Business Warehouse application.

The project team, which included SAP Consulting and value engineering experts, analyzed the company’s needs and examined two approaches: adding new hardware or replacing the existing database with the SAP HANA database. With SAP HANA, company leaders saw the opportunity to save time and the ability to integrate a variety of data sources.
Ultimately, we recognized that SAP HANA could deliver the high performance analytics we were looking for. - Subodh Dubey, Group CIO, Usha International Limited

Enter SAP: The SAP Experience

Quick Turnarounds

Usha worked with a dedicated SAP Ramp-Up coach and used SAP Enterprise Support services throughout this initial implementation. They held regular review meetings and ensured the project was staffed with the right analytics skill sets. Usha completed the entire project in only four weeks for 16 branch offices, 30 depots, and 4 manufacturing plants.

Later on, Usha deployed SAP ERP powered by SAP HANA. In doing so they were able to create high-availability and disaster-recovery environments with minimal effort. The SAP ERP upgrade was completed in just 10 weeks – two weeks ahead of schedule.

Better Business

Faster Reporting; Better Decisions

Usha has significantly improved their system performance in terms of data compression, data loads, and query response times. This has helped support faster reporting and better-informed decision making.

Better Business: Benefits

A Better Way

With business systems powered by SAP HANA, reporting performance is five times faster, allowing Usha to analyze sales and pricing more quickly and resulting in significant savings in time and labor costs.

Usha also has a more demand-driven supply chain. Inventory levels have been reduced, and, in some instances, out-of-date inventory eliminated. This means better cash flow and lower inventory carrying costs.

Better Business: Run Simple

A Future-Ready Platform

Since deployment, Usha has realized a net profit margin improvement of US$7.7 million. Best of all, they now have a future-ready platform for long-term business analysis and planning.

Journey Ahead

Many Inputs, Smarter Decisions

Usha’s goal is to continue to gain an ever-deeper understanding of the consumer through various sources, including retail point-of-sale reports, the customer service portal, e-mail, and social media.

So in the future, Usha wants to integrate SAP BusinessObjects™ business intelligence solutions and, ultimately, the SAP Business Planning and Consolidation application, with their SAP Business Warehouse environment.

The bottom line for Usha is getting the right products into the hands of their consumers.
